F or Chinese-Australian artist Lindy Lee, it was never a question of being an artist, but more the process of creating became vital to defining her sense of self. One of Australia’s foremost contemporary artists, Lindy’s work, which covers painting, sculpture, installation, and more recently, public art projects, is a frequent introspection on her heritage and the influence of Taoist and Buddhist philosophy.
Margot Spalding first came across our radar here at Broad because of her bold style, and #funwithfashion ethos for women over 50. But as the title of her Australian Story segment rightly suggests, Margot is a force of nature. Despite being dealt the cruellest of blows at 15 when she lost both her parents, and then again at 17 when she lost her sister, Margot has in the words of her daughter Georgia ‘thrown herself at life’ — dedicating herself to supporting others and standing up for those without a voice.
Some young girls are really into pink. Others insist on dressing up – princess for a day is a popular theme. And others prefer to step out in a dropped waist dress, carrying mother’s handbag and sporting a mini-bouffant. And that’s just to visit the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Even at age three, a sense of timeless styling had Elizabeth Kingston in its grip.
Model and stylist, Melinda Brady, and most recently the creator of YouTube channel Embrace Age, talks to us about ageing naturally and embracing the years, rather than trying to hold them back.
Iwas married once. I lived in a beautiful house with my husband, one child, two dogs, three cats and a guinea pig. Now I am divorced (I don’t know why I can’t just be ‘single’ again, but apparently it doesn’t work like that) and I live completely alone. I had been married almost 25 years when the heartbreaking decision to leave my husband was made. Approaching 45, I felt decidedly middle-aged, not very attractive, and thought it quite unlikely that I would ever again meet anyone who might be interested in me. Which goes to show just how wrong a girl can be.
On an evening out with a group of friends not even a year later, I was introduced to a man with whom I would eventually fall in love. In the dizzying first months we were barely apart.
